About the Artist
Throughout her life, Candace painted in oils or acrylics when the urge and time coincided, which wasn’t very often. Majoring in sciences at the University of Hawaii, painting became even more the occasional hobby.

It wasn’t until 2004, after being inspired by the works of one of her former employers, Bridgette Adams, that she decided to concentrate on art. The Pastel Artists of Hawaii showed her a whole new world of possibilities with pastels. That same year, one of her paintings was accepted in PAH’s first annual juried open exhibition.

Candace was also Inspired by local watercolorist Roger Whitlock, who taught her about the medium. And in 2006, one of her watercolors was accepted into the Hawaii Watercolor Society’s Open Juried Show, juried by Doug Lew.

Candace has taken pastel workshops from Alan Flattman, Gregory Biolchini, Maggie Price, Richard McKinley and Terry Ludwig, and watercolor workshops from Ann Pember, Gay Jefferson, Sue Connor and Doug Lew.

“I enjoy working in both mediums and meeting the famous artists of today. But most of all, I appreciate what they have shown me about creating art and the confidence they have given me through their encouragements.”

The artist is an active member of the Pastel Artists of Hawaii, being on the board and is their Webmaster, newsletter editor and showchair. She is also a member of the Hawaii Watercolor Society and the Association of Hawaii Artists. Candace paints en plein air with the Windward Wanderers, as well as in her studio in Kane‘ohe.

Candace has various independent, juried and non-juried shows throughout the year. Some of her works may be seen at Sunshine Arts Hawaii, a gallery of fine art in Kahalu‘u on the Windward side of O‘ahu and Windward Vision Center.
